CTS Container & Trailer Services Ltd. was founded in 1986 by our President Andrew Allardice with a total work force of 7 people. His aim was to provide a quality product and service that both CTS and our customers would be proud of.
As now, CTS was based in Burnside Business Park, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada although the premises on Joseph Zatsman Drive were more humble than today's state of the art facility. In 1986 our core business was the supply, repair and service of specialty Containers and Trailers to the shipping, oil & gas, construction and transport industries.
Being so close to one of the busiest and deepest ports in the world meant CTS was ideally situated to meet the demands of the global Shipping Industry and we were soon recognized by many major shipping lines as the most reliable repair and storage facility in the region. This reputation has grown and we continue to offer unparalleled services to all of our valued customers.
CTS growth continued and during 1998 the decision was taken to expand and invest heavily in our Offshore Container Division. During this time we began a long-standing and successful relationship with Offshore Industry Logistics supplying containers to the Sable Offshore Energy Project off the coast of Nova Scotia. The investment to the offshore fleet has continued and in 2004 CTS formed an alliance with IWES of Trinidad. CTS IWES now operates the largest fleet of DNV approved containers in the Caribbean.
Mid 2000 brought further expansion when the success of the Trailer Division meant it required its own premises in order to fully realize its potential. A move to a purpose built facility and storage yard a short drive from our headquarters gave CTS the ability to look for new Trailer business and continue to offer the exceptional service to which our customers have become accustomed.
In 2002 the management team at CTS realized that in order to continue to be an industry leader we needed to expand our manufacture, repair and storage facility. The decision was taken to move from our existing headquarters to a new multi-purpose site, custom built to our specifications. The search began to find a plot suitable to accommodate not only our current requirements but also our future projections. CTS found their new home on MacDonald Avenue inside the Burnside Business Park. By late 2003 the 11 acre site including an 18,000 sq. ft. repair & fabrication workshop, modern office space and a secure storage yard capable of holding 10,000 TEU's was ready. From this new facility, CTS has already manufactured specialty units and supplied engineering services to major projects not only in North America but to countries including Russia and Venezuela.
2005 sees the construction of a new blast & paint bay to replace the existing bays, which are held off site. The addition of these custom built units will consolidate our manufacture & refurbishment operations at our headquarters and provide more flexibility on deliveries and allow for greater quality control.
From a humble beginning CTS has come along away and now operates from a purpose built container facility with a permanent staff of over 40 highly skilled and dedicated employees including our own in-house design engineers and experienced industry experts. 2006 will mark the 20th anniversary of our company, a remarkable landmark in today's competitive and cutthroat business world. As we celebrate our past success we also look forward to a bright future at CTS. We will carry on our philosophy of inward investment to meet new challenges and ensure our success continues for the next 20 years and beyond.
